I am Richard Henry. I have been playing the Piano probably since the age of 7/8 years. I started off by playing simple pieces, but as time went by, my interests grew in Western Classical Music. My grandfather, Late Mr. I Jaganathan was a major influence in the area of music. I now support my father, Mr. Henry Jaganathan in playing the Organ at St. Thomas’ Tamil Cathedral and also play the Organ for some of the selections from Handel’s Messiah sung at Christmas and Palm Sunday Music programs held every year. Very few Church choirs or Christian groups sing Christian Western Classical choruses/anthems and Tabernacles is one of them. It is a pleasure to be associated with the Tabernacles, first when lead by Uncle Kenneth Gibson and now lead by Zubin Gibson. May God be glorified through my talent.
I am Rita Daniel. My interest in music and playing the piano started when I was 10/12 years old. My grandfather, Late Mr. I Jaganathan played a big role in leading me into this interest in playing the Piano, you could say, Music runs in our family. He and my father, Mr. Henry Jaganathan always encouraged me to practice and that’s how I first played the Organ at St. Thomas’ Tamil Cathedral. I like playing simple western classical music and there was no dearth of music books at home. However, it was only on the passing away of my grandfather did I even venture into classics of Handel’s Messiah as we wanted to keep the western classical church music alive which my grandfather strived hard at. Today I can play a couple of Handel’s Messiah pieces thanks to the training received at home and the encouragement of my family and friends. I must say that Uncle Kenneth Gibson greatly encouraged in keeping this music tradition alive and gave opportunities to play for the Tabernacles, the group that he founded. It’s heartening to note that Zubin Gibson is carrying on the mantle thrust upon him and is continuing to encourage musicians today by giving them opportunities. Playing the Piano gives me great joy and peace and I will continue to play for His glory.
